The Qur’an’s Most Surprising Editor

Muslims like to claim that the Qur’an was ‘Never changed, never altered’. Yet the most respected traditions hilariously contains a reference to the fact that one verse was removed by a hungry goat!

Narrated Aisha ‘The verse of stoning and of suckling an adult ten times were revealed, and they were (written) on a paper and kept under my bed. When the Messenger of Allah expired, and we were preoccupied with his death a goat entered and ate away the paper. Sunan Ibn Majah, Book of Nikah, Hadith Number 1934

Sahih Bukhari, the most respected hadith collection confirms that the ‘Verse of Stoning’ was once part of the Qur’an: “Allah sent Muhammad with the Truth and revealed the Holy Book to him, and among what Allah revealed was the Verse of the Rajam the stoning of married person” Sahih Bukhari 8:817
